All over the world, nutritionists recommend eating a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits to get required minerals and vitamins. What about the foods that aren't found in nature? For instance milk fortified with Vitamin D, pasta enriched with calcium and brands of soda with vitamins. Are these modified foods healthier than the natural?
Some nutritionists argue that, consuming these foods
provide similar benefits as taking supplements. Despite how they are amplified,
these foods are not always as impressive as their labels state. Especially when
compared to natural foods like whole foods. It has been demonstrated that processing
of food destroys some nutrients. Fiber is one example of a nutrient that lacks
in processed foods. Fiber is a crucial nutrient that cannot be ignored. It
assists in digestion and helps the body to slow down the absorption of sugar
into the blood. However, some processors try to add the lost nutrients, but
still the accurate and natural amount has not always been attained.
Artificial products may contain too many minerals or
vitamins. This can lead to overdosing of certain nutrients especially if you
frequently eat similar food. More of a ‘good’ thing is not better. For example,
too much of vitamins can cause reduced bone strength and headaches. In case you
are using artificial foods, it is prudent to always check the quantity of the
nutrients on the labels. This will make sure you are not taking too much of a
nutrient.
Research is still underway on some artificial foods
available in the market. The research may take several years before a verdict
is stated. Numerous artificial foods can be part of a healthy eating plan.
Therefore, they are good but should be used intelligibly and cautiously.
However, whole foods should be your first priority.
Points to note:
1. Many artificial foods can be part of a healthy eating
plan. However, whole foods should have the first priority when choosing
nutritional foods.
2. Artificial food labels should be checked carefully to
ascertain the amount present is not excess.
Have you benefited from the above information? I would like
to know what you think about artificial foods.
